Commonly referred to as “man’s best friend”, most dog owners regard their dogs as members of their family; in fact, some of them prefer to sleep next to their pet dogs rather than share the bed with their spouses. In recent years, dogs have become fashion icons, many thanks to Paris Hilton’s love for Tinkerbell, her female Chihuahua that not only became an overnight sensation for “writing” its memoir, but also for setting the trend among “accessory pets”. Most dogs do not have Tinkerbell’s celebrity status, but their owners surely love them just as much. Or, so Linda thought.Linda Kajda of Massachusetts adores her Pomeranian Pebbles, who she felt helpless for when Pebbles started shedding her hair and not even her Vet could offer permanent relief. Imagine her shock when she was told that she could lose her precious Pebbles to alopecia, a hormonal imbalance, which caused Pebbles to shed her fur, not in strands, but in clumps! Dog’s Best Friend Can Be Its EnemyLinda embarked on research that led to her discovery that it was SHE who caused her dog’s misery. Just like Linda, you could be killing your dog too without even trying. It just comes “within the territory.”Despite the TLC she’s getting from you, your dog can get sick inside your home. Linda wrote a book about her discovery on dog health problems; here is an excerpt of that book on what you can do to save your dog’s life, without seeing your Vet:1. Does your dog suffer from dandruff, which may cause he or she to shed its fur just like what happened to Pebbles? Give your dog an oatmeal bath and you will see immediate results.2. Have you installed a new carpet in your home lately? Carpets can cause your dog skin disorders.3. Do ringworms feed on your dogs? Give your pets a good bath with rosemary or marigold petals and dandelion leaves to kill the pests and promote dog health.4. Worried about fleas? Start feeding your dog with natural foods, such as fruits and some helpings of vegetables and notice how the new diet will starve fleas off your dog’s back!5. Frequent visits to your vet’s clinic due to your dog’s recurring skin problem brought about by ticks can cause a dent in your wallet. Soak a cotton ball in liquid soap and apply it on the affected skin of your dog. See what happens.Your dog’s environment and diet can contribute to its health – or death. The good news is you can do something about it. There are natural and home-made remedies that you can apply on your dog’s skin disorders and providing your dog with a good helping of natural foods can restore health, without shelling out hundreds of dollars to Vets, unless it is extremely necessary.Linda has proven that her new found household remedies work and she would like to share these with all dog owners as much as possible. Save your dog early. Waiting for another day may just be too late.

Linda’s website DogSkinSolutions.com provides access to more valuable resources on how you can take care of your pets without seeing your vet, unnecessarily. If you purchase “Solutions to Your Dog’s Skin Problems” today, you’ll receive 3 more books, originally valued at $64 – but absolutely free-of-charge to you!

Even though you probably love your dog they may not love you during their bath time. Most dog owners will probably have to drag their dogs into the bath but after you read and find out more about bathing then maybe it won’t be such a hard time. After reading this you shouldn’t have to fight your dog to take a bath.
After you have bought some dog bath accessories then you probably will be looking forward to bathing and using those accessories on your dog. When you have things to help you bath your dog it will be a lot easier then when you didn’t have any bathing tools. After all your dog is your best friend so shouldn’t they get the luxury they need?
When you are bathing your dog inside the house it is always good to have or own a booster tub so it can make it easier on you so you don’t have to reach down and strain to bath the dog. It is also made so the dog can get in and out easier then a regular tub at home. You will not have to hold onto the dog and most likely will not get wet when getting the dog out of the booster tub. Another great feature on this tub is it has shampoo and conditioner dispensers so you don’t have to worry about reaching for your bathing needs. You won’t have to buy extra dispensers now you have them on the tub. Perhaps you want to bath your dog outside then you need a sprayer so you can just bath them down with the shampoo really good then just rinse them off with the sprayer. Another thing you may want to prevent the tub from moving around is a mat to put underneath so it doesn’t slide around when you are using the tub.
Maybe your dog doesn’t like a good bath well then you will have to buy a bathing harness so they don’t try and run out and get your house wet. This harness will keep your dog in place so you don’t have to hold them while you try to bath them. You just need to connect it all together to the dog and then start bathing.
Instead of just using your hand or just any old towel you can get a special mitt that you can wear so you can really scrub your dog down and give them the bath that they need even if they don’t want it.
A good towel is another good thing to have after bathing your dog you want a towel that will soak up a good part of the water from the dog coat so they don’t go dripping wet all around your house. You want a towel that is made from micro fibers so it will pull more water away from the coat drying your pet faster then a cotton towel. These are just a few tips to help you bath your dog easier then the normal way most people will bath their dogs.

One thing you can count on when bringing home a new dog is the fact that he will nip and bite at your fingertips during the first few days or weeks. This is totally normal and there is no reason to get frantic that you may have purchased an aggressive dog. However, like any hostile behavior you wish to change about your dog, you need to take a few steps so that your dog understands that biting is not something you as the “pack leader” want him to continue doing. In other words he has to understand that biting is a huge no-no.
So how do you change biting behavior which is quite natural for dogs? Well, the first and foremost, you have to determine his age. This is very important because dogs under the age of about 15 weeks have to be handled slightly different when it comes to mouthing and biting than dogs over the age of 15 weeks.
If your dog is new and younger than 15 weeks, the following tips can help you control his annoying biting behavior:
1. First, you should begin to show your dog that you prefer his licking instead of biting. When he changes his behavior and licks at your fingertips or hands, make sure to praise him very gently. You can also encourage your dog to lick more often by rubbing a little butter or coconut oil on your fingertips. Let him know by soothing caresses that what he is doing is a good thing with each lick.
2. If your dog is continues with his biting habit at your fingertips and he is just been fed and really doesn’t need anything in his mouth, just set him aside with a nice bone for a little while. This is where a crate would come in very handy. Simply place your dog in the crate for a short period of time so that he can re-channel his mouthing attention to his favorite bone. And it is very important not to scream at or punish your dog along the way. You must create a positive learning environment for your dog. A hostile environment for a dog creates a hostile dog. A biting dog can become an even more serious issue when he starts biting members of your family and worse yet, strangers.
3. Whenever the dog bites down hard on your fingertips or hand, use a disciplinary tone of voice and give a command such as “No-No” while looking firmly into his eyes. Then simply hold this firm demeanor for a few moments and then immediately change your body language and go back to whatever it is you’re doing before, and with a calm approach. You have to remain calm. Many dog owners feel that being violent is the best approach but its not. Doing this step a few times is sufficient for your dog to learn the command and to stop biting down hard when he is commanded not to.

Everyone wishes for a well behaved pet dog that wouldn’t chew on their favorite shoes, or leave half-eaten newspapers on the lawn. We all long to find our own version of Lassie, but it’s difficult when we don’t know where to start. Training your mutt to be a Class A citizen is close to impossible if you’re off on the wrong foot. This article lists pointers to guide every dog lover on the right track.
Choosing the right collar and leash
The fist step in training your dog is to find the right collar and leash. Make sure that the collar you buy is strong enough to hold an aggressive and untrained mutt, but comfortable enough for long term wear. Don’t buy a frail collar just because it looks cute on your pet. On the other hand, you shouldn’t pick a collar that could possibly injure your dog. Collars made of tough cloth and leather are very good choices.
When buying the leash, the same rules apply. Chain leashes may be strong enough to handle a big mutt, but they’re pretty difficult to manage unless you’re wearing gloves. Chain leashes can also injure your pet, so it’s still safer to choose a tough rope-like cloth leash.
Positive reinforcement works best
Just because you have an aggressive dog doesn’t mean that you have a bad dog. Most of the time, pet aggression is caused by a misunderstanding between you and your pet. You pet is probably venting out frustration because it couldn’t please you. Giving treats to reward your pet works better than any punishment when you’re trying to get the message across. Harsh punishments for misdemeanors only trigger defensive behavior from your dog. For this to work, make sure you don’t spoil your pet dog by giving it treats for no reason. Make treat giving an occasional but meaningful occasion.
Keeping your sessions short and sweet
Your pet’s attention span can only hold lessons for 10 to 15 minutes in a row. Holding long training sessions within the day, in other words, will only bore your pet. For a more effective training scheme, spread your training sessions into 2 or 3 regular segments throughout the day. Try to stick to a strict and consistent training schedule, and don’t rush your pet when you’re in training. Slow and steady wins the game in pet training too.
What you should do when all else fails
There are some pets that are simply harder to train compared to others. Labradors usually give their owners a big headache because they tend to act like pups even when they’re all grown up.
Most people who can’t train their dogs look for professional trainers who can hold sessions inside their house. Some owners also find dog schools effective for extremely disobedient mutts. If you’re not comfortable about leaving your pet in someone else’s hands, you should try group dog training sessions, so you can still train your dog under the supervision of a professional pet trainer.

The pet accessories market has expanded significantly in recent years, making it confusing for pet owners to decide which accessories are essential or optional.

Enlightened consumers usually break down their purchases into three categories:

· Must have

· Nice to have

· Can have, provided it doesn’t break the budget

We can apply the same rule when buying accessories for our dog. The guiding theme should be: purchase only those accessories that will keep your pet clean and healthy. Unless you take your pet to dog shows regularly to show him off, you need buy only those products that will help him stay clean and healthy.

We have selected dog accessories that fall under the “must have” category:

Dog Beds

Your dog’s bed should provide adequate body support. Make sure that materials are hypoallergenic and that no toxic elements were used in the manufacturing of the bed. Choose a brand that will prevent bunching or shifting so that your dog’s comfort is ensured 100%.

A suggestion for a dog bed is one that has an exterior made of eco-friendly recycled cotton which is more gentle on your dog’s skin and is machine washable. You can also check if the product or brand has been endorsed by reputable veterinarian associations or dog health organizations.

Dog Tent

If you like to take your dog outdoors during extremely hot and cold weather, a portable tent that can be used outdoors, indoors and inside the van will come in handy and will protect your dog from the elements. It is an umbrella-like mechanism that props up at the flick of a button. A dog tent serves as an extension of your dog’s house or bed; most dog tents come with claw-proof windows made of soft mesh material and a “porch” in the front. This makes travelling with your dog easier, particularly when your car breaks down in extreme weather conditions and you’re waiting for help to come.

Pain Relief

If you have an older dog, their joints and muscles can suffer from pain and swelling. Obesity, seniority and a sedentary lifestyle can trigger arthritic symptoms. Note that young dogs can also have pain symptoms. Choose a product that is made mostly of natural ingredients and which has been tested for effectiveness.

A pain relief product for your dog is your “first aid” chest. Select a product that also has antibacterial, antimicrobial and antifungal properties. Use it when your pet is injured and is bleeding, has swollen joints or itchy skin.

Bathing Products

If your pet is suffering from even the most minor of skin irritations, use gentle coat shampoos that will not have an abrasive effect on skin. You can choose a shampoo that not only cleans but also disinfects your pet against flea dermatitis or infestation including hives, hot spots, odours, ringworms, thrush, wounds and sunburn.

Thousands of pet owners prefer natural oatmeal preparations for their pet’s shampoo because it does not irritate dry skin. You may also buy shampoo and body wash products that will untangle hair and give it a good shine.

Grooming Accessories

You want a stripping comb that will cover large areas of hair to quickly remove loose and falling hair especially if your dog has a thick undercoat. You may also want to consider a lava stripping stone which helps eliminate dead hair to improve the look of your dog’s coat.

Ear and Mouth Wipes

Like humans, dogs are susceptible to dirt and wax build-up in their ears. There are ear wipes that are made with non-allergenic ingredients so that you need not worry about whether the wipes are safe and natural. You need a brand that is hypo-allergenic, is free from soap ingredients and by-products, contains no parabens, sulfates or artificial colours and are bio-degradable.

And dogs, like humans, can also have bad breath. Pet owners tend to overlook this; they become worried only when they kiss their dog and smell a foul odour. Enter mouth wipes. Choose mouth wipes that have been pre-moistened with botanical ingredients to keep your dog’s gums healthy and to give him or her fresher breath. Most mouth wipes are flavoured with peppermint for long lasting freshness.

Reflective Dog Collars

If your dog likes to wander around at night and has a dark coat, reflective dog collars are true life savers. Dog collars are inexpensive and are a good investment. Choose brands that are soft to the skin so they don’t hurt your dog’s neck, and collars that are odor-resistant.

Given recent innovations in pet products, you can now buy dog collars that are made with a special kind of material. There are some materials that have tiny invisible chamber holes to absorb water and to provide proper airing, preventing the formation of mildew.
