The English Springer Spaniel sprang from the original Norfolk Spaniel. the Duke of Norfolk kept a kennel of these fine hunting dogs with liver and white coloring who were noted as “Springers” because of their usefulness in “springing” game for the hawk or the gun. Of all of the land Spaniels, the Springer was longer on leg and a taller dog. It has always a popular hunting dog in England and widely used in the field as a dog to roust up the birds and also to retrieve.
The English Springer Spaniel in Great Britain has retained much of its hunting ability and traditional uses as a hunting animal. Meanwhile in the United States the Springer Spaniel has very nearly evolved into a completely different breed. Since its inception into the American Kennel club in the early 1900s the breed has been bred almost exclusively for showing and the form of the dog has become very exaggerated, with a longer neck and more sloping back. Furthermore the beauty of the coat and length of coat has been emphasized, to the detriment of its purpose, which is meant to be a weather resistant fairly short coat for use in the field.
The divergence has become so great that in 1993 the English Springer Spaniel club voiced its wish to become completely separated from the American counterpart of the English Springer. It began to become more apparent as time went on that the American Springer Spaniel was moving further away from the “standard” in the same way that the American Cocker Spaniel moved away from its English counterpart. The American counter part of the English Springer Spaniel is now denoted as the “Springer Spaniel.”
The English Springer Spaniel should be an “un-exaggerated” breed in all respects. It should have a balanced disposition as well, being gentle and non aggressive and accepting of training. The American Springer Spaniel has unfortunately become known as a possibly aggressive dog, this is a a distressing development for any breed and particularly for those people who cherish and breed for this dog’s reputation as a dependable and affectionate hunting companion.
In fact, a particular incidence of the condition called “Rage Syndrome” has developed in the American Springer Spaniel which is actually called “Springer Rage Syndrome” and it is felt that there may be a genetic component of this particular behavior. Thankfully, more American breeders are attempting to regain the Spaniels’ reputation as a solid and stable companion dog. The reputation of the breed on the other side of the world, in Great Britain, remains that of a reliable and non aggressive animal.
It is important that buyers of a Springer Spaniel meet the parents of the puppy and investigate the qualifications of the breeder. Rage Syndrome does not appear at this time to be a condition which can be “tested” genetically, but it is increasingly apparent that an important factor for suitable temperament in any breed of dog is the temperament of the parents. Breeders will tell you that temperament is most definitely an inherited factor. The Springer Spaniel should be a non aggressive, gentle and reliable hunting dog and family pet.

The decision to getting a dog should be thought out first. Getting a dog can be a happy occasion that bring joy to a persons life, if they get the right dog suited for them. The first thing is to look at different dog breeds. There are over 400 different dog breeds in the US. The best choice, leading to the most suitable relationship between pet and owner is the one that matches the personality and lifestyle of the owner. You want a dog you can have fun with and one that you will enjoy. If you choose a dog with a temperament that matches your personality and lifestyle, you will have great fun with the dog and the dog will have great fun with you. With all the many breed choices possible, an impulsive decision can easily result in your owning a breed that doesn’t fit your personality and lifestyle. Also with so many choices it may be hard to select one. One way is by appearance. This may come about in two ways. You may have seen a dog in a book or on the street that caught your eye. If you succeed in matching a dogs temperamental characterists to your lifestyle, you are less likely to experience behavior problems and chaos that usually arise out of a mis-match. Also consider how different breeds interact with family members and/or familiar people with other strange dogs. Would you prefer an active dog or a non-active dog? A good way to start the selection process is to begin with a range of possibilities and reduce them down to the ideal match. Start first with physical characteristics. There are 4 physical characteristics that are the most important to consider in choosing a dog to fit your lifestyle. Coat quality, height, weight, and strength. Coat Quality: Coat shedding and grooming. Some dogs shed excessively all year round. Some shed moderately… some shed seasonally and others shed very little. The amount of shedding should be considered when selecting a dog. Dog Height and Strength: A dogs potential size and strength is another physical characteristic that can affect your lifestyle. Dog heights can range from 5″ to 36″ measured at the shoulders. Adult female dogs are usually 1 to 2 inches shorter than their male counter part. Dog Weight: A dogs weight can range from 4 pounds to over 100 pounds. Adult females are only slightly lighter in the tiny and miniature breeds, about 5 pounds lighter in the small to medium sized breeds, 10 pounds lighter in the large and very large breeds, and as much as 15 to 20 pounds lighter in the enormous breeds. The species Canis familiars (or common dogs) has more of a variety of appearances than all other species of animals. It is understandable that some people tend to choose a dog by its looks and not by its temperament or other characteristics. Thats why it’s important before acquiring a dog to research each breed and see which one is best for you. Most people looking for a dog, is one they can have fun with and that’s the right attitude to have. If you make a logical choice of a dog with a temperament that matches your individual personality and lifestyle, you will enjoy and have fun with your new friend and it will enjoy and have fun with you.

The big day has finally arrived, a new member of the family will be joining your ranks. When you bring the little one home, you want to know you have made the right decision, are they going to fit in well with the other family members, will they be kind to everyone, will they be too rambunctious or too big? Of course by little one I am referring to a new dog in the family. These are questions that often come to mind when bringing home a new pet. While there are no guarantees that whatever dog you choose will connect instantly with your family and most important your children, considering a few different things will better ensure a proper match.

The first item to consider is the size of the dog you want to bring home. Canines vary in size from miniature two pound Chihuahua’s up to three hundred pound English Mastiffs. While it seems like a very small dog might be best for very small children, think again. If the dog is too small it has a greater likelihood of being stepped on or hurt even by small children who are ten times their size. Huge dogs are not taboo when it comes to children, they can work well, but now the child’s size gives them the disadvantage. Other things to think about are where you live; will the dog have enough room to stay active? Large dogs in a small apartment or tiny dogs on a huge plot of land may not pose problems, but do you want to take the risk?

Another item to think about when choosing a family dog is personality. While mean dogs are generally that way because of training, there are breeds that are more likely to be bad with children. Of the 279 deaths caused by dogs between 1979 and 1994, Pit Bulls, Rottweilers and German Shepards were the most commonly reported dog breed involved. Other dogs that have a tendency to be biters are Dobermans and Dalmatians. Along with thinking about how vicious a dog is, dog activity is another thing to consider. Even if a certain breed is known to be less vicious, it may be too rambunctious for small children. There are many things about a dogs personality that lend themselves to being good with children, one that is docile, loving, patient, and willing to be tugged at. Finding a dog that has these characteristics is the key.

There are other things that will make having a dog and children easier as well. Children take a lot of your time, having your daily walks with your dog may not be as easy as it once was, especially in cold climates where it is difficult to take children out at the same time. Dogs that require a lot of exercise such as larger terriers, spaniels and most dogs over 50 pounds may not be able to have the attention required to keep them healthy and active. Other considerations in choosing a dog is how easy it is to clean up after, does it shed a lot, or does it require regular grooming? While they may seem small considerations now, constantly having to vacuum or pull dog hairs off you baby or child will eventually become very tedious.

The last item to think about when it comes to dogs and children is timing. What do I mean by this? Many dogs do much better when they are raised at the same time as the children. It is more difficult for an older dog to adjust to infants or small children than one who has grown up with them. When a dog is accustomed to children from the time they are puppies, it can tolerate the hair pulling, hitting and tugging with more patience. It might even be more willing to be dressed up for a tea party or two.

There are no guarantees when it comes to choosing a new dog for your family, but when certain things are researched first, it can increase the likelihood of a good match. A family dog will be a member of your clan for years to come, hopefully some of the information here can help them fit in and become a loving part of any family.

You’ve finally decided you want to get a dog, but how do you go about choosing a dog breed that will fit your personality and lifestyle. There are over 400 different dog breeds to choose from. Don’t just consider the outward appearance when picking a dog breed. Do you want a male or female? Do you want a puppy or an adult? Do you want a lap dog or guard dog? First, consult with a professional dog handler or a professional dog trainer to learn about certain dog personalities of different breeds, and try to match what you want with what a particular dog has to offer. Also, talk to a veterinarian about your choice of a purebred or mixed breed dog. The professional trainers and vets’ opinions are invaluable, as they handle many different dogs every day and have first hand knowledge of the characteristics, and qualities of different types of dogs and breeds. You can choose between a purebred dog or a mixed breed dog. The advantages of purebred dogs are consistency of appearance, size, coat type, and color. If you decide on a German Shepherd breed, you can be certain it will grow to a certain size…It will be similar to other German Shepherds in appearance…Its color, temperament, coat, etc will be similar to other German Shepherds. Purebred dogs generally have more genetic faults and deformities than do mixed breeds. Mixed breed puppies may mature to look like their dam, their sire (if known) or neither. Their coats may be rough, smooth, or wiry. Adult mixed breeds are difficult to ascertain, as are their expressions. These variations are multiplied when either or both parents are from mixed backgrounds. Mixed breeds usually have a certain amount of heterosis ( increased vigor or other superior qualities that come from crossbreeding), which, under some circumstances, result in stronger and more disease-resistant dogs. A mixed breed puppy is likely to have a very individual personality, seemingly unrelated to either of its parents. The temperament of mixed breeds are often quieter and more stable than those of purebreds, although this characteristic is not consistent. Temperament is partially genetic and partly the result of experience and training. Many purebreds have a notably quiet temperament, and an occasional mixed breed is unpredictable. Before you select a purebred or a mixed breed, decide what you expect of the dog. If you have a desire to exhibit it in conformation shows, obedience trials, field trials, herding tests, or other American Kennel Club sponsored events, you must start out with a purebred. If you want a companion, a family pet, or a child’s dog and have no aspirations of winning blue ribbons, a mixed breed should fill your need nicely. Mixed breed puppies and adult dogs are plentiful, both from shelters and private homes. They cost less to buy, and may be easier to handle. Mixed breed dogs can compete in Frisbee contests, 4-H obedience, and non-AKC agility trials, and are included in the AKC-sponsored Canine Good Citizen program.

People who suffer from dog allergies tend to have a very tough time being around dogs in general making it miserable for them to have a pet dog.  Their allergies flair up and bring about terrible sneezing, stuffy noses, skin rashes and watery/itchy eyes that they develop while in the proximity of dogs.   Luckily, there are special types of dog which are considered hypoallergenic dogs that can allow someone with dog allergies to still have a canine pet. Generally dog allergy symptoms develop because of allergen particles which are given off in the air from dog skin and hair.  The allergens mostly come from things the dog hair has come into contact with such as dust and pollen, which trigger allergies.  People who have dog allergies have immune systems which tend to be weaker when they are in contact with the various allergens, triggering the various symptoms such as stuffy nose, sneezing and skin rashes or hives.  To further illustrate why dogs can cause allergies for some people, dogs which have more hair tend to pick up more of the allergen particles.  Therefore someone who suffers from dog allergies would want to avoid dogs like the German Shepherd, Irish Setter or Afghan Hound. The alternative to having no dog whatsoever is to choose a dog which will cause less or minimal allergies.  Hypoallergenic dogs are dogs that create less allergens in the air due to their physical size and fur lengths.  Some of these dogs have very minimal shedding of their hair which helps to reduce the chance for any allergen particles being sent into the air.  It’s important to note that no dog is considered truly hypoallergenic, because all dogs give off some degree of allergens, and dog allergies can be different from person to person.  There’s several potential pets that a person with dog allergies can consider.  Breeds of dog such as the Pomeranian, Irish Terrier, Samoyed, Portuguese Water Dog and Miniature Schnauzers are considered great pets for those with dog allergies due to minimal shedding or dander.  The Incha Orchid, Chinese Crested, American Hairless Terrier or the Mexican Hairless are also great choices as these dogs are almost all hairless.  Also consider the environment or living arrangement when choosing the dog.  Dogs such as Irish Terriers and Poodles tend to do better with families while Portuguese Water Dogs and Chihuahuas are better with one person. When selecting a prospective pet dog, one of the best pieces of advice for the prospective dog owner who has dog allergies is for that person to spend at least 30 minutes around the potential pet dog.  This can help the individual gauge whether or not that dog will be right for them, or cause them to suffer from dog allergies.  If the dog being considered lives at a breeder far away, sending a piece of clothing is an alternate way to test things.  Once the clothing item has been placed near the dog for a day or so it can be sent back for the individual to test by wearing or smelling to see if it causes any allergy problems. People who enjoy the companionship of having a pet dog yet have allergy complications don’t have to be pet-less.  A hypoallergenic dog can provide the perfect solution to allow a dog allergy sufferer to have a pet dog while cutting down on the coughing, sneezing and irritations that come with allergies.

Pet Dog Nation provides dog owners and animal lovers information about dog allergies, dog grooming, care and presents various dog breeds including hypoallergenic dogs.

So many people drive around every day making bold statements they feel passionate about. I’m sure you will have seen car window stickers stating the important fact that a dog is for life and not just for Christmas.
Outside of really cruel owners and serious neglect, I believe most people take on a new pet for good reasons and with the best of intentions. Unfortunately many people choose a pet for the wrong reason, without enough knowledge and without doing any research whatsoever. Children often fall in love with various pets and put pressure on their parents to allow them to keep them. A beautiful little puppy was brought to my home by a friends son who was intending to keep him. It was absolutely adorable (Like all puppies are) This particular puppy had gigantic paws and I later found out that it was an Akita Japanese dog. The Akita is a beautiful dog, usually kept as a guard dog but they need very strict training and can be very aggressive to other animals and children not belonging to the family home. Fortunately they didn’t keep the puppy but I find it amazingly worrying to think how that situation may have turned out.
Choosing an animal is a huge responsibility, a long term commitment and should be discussed with all family members. Do you have land or a garden or do you live in an apartment. This will probably affect the breed of dog you choose. Also you will need to make sure all borders are secure so your dog cannot escape to busy roadways. Can you afford the necessary costs of keeping a dog and more importantly the ongoing costs of yearly injections, insurance or vet bills. If you want to take holidays during the next number of years, and your dog is not allowed to go will you be able to afford boarding kennel costs. Is there going to be enough company for the dog or will it be left alone all day? Does this particular dog need lots of exercise and if so who is going to enjoy exercising him or her everyday come rain or shine for the next ten to fifteen or more years. Is everyone prepared to do extra chores because dog hairs will be a problem if not. Very few breeds of dogs do not moult. Does everyone understand that when puppies are teething they relieve their discomfort by chewing on a bone, a designer shoe or two or three and antique furniture or leather sofas. They don’t discriminate between any of these items even though you do.
There are so many breeds of dogs that are beautiful but if you choose a dog for its physical looks you could very well be bitterly disappointed. There are many places on the internet where you can fill in a questionnaire and find a variety of breeds that will suit your lifestyle and then both you and your four-legged friend can share a wonderful life together. A dog can be a wonderful and loyal companion. You can pamper him or her with diamond studded collars, grooming parlors, a pyramid meditation bed to thrive under and endless toys for the prince or princess of canines but you’ll have their unconditional love if you simply love and take care of them.

German Rottweiler puppies are birthed in Germany and American Rottweiler pups are conceived in the USA. Quite basic sounding; however, the Rottweiler dog’s country of birth is the most major distinction between the two types of Rottweiler pups. Of course, there are other distinguishing factors that can be linked to each Rottweiler dog type.

Many Rottweiler Dog Breeders will tell you that there are several variations between United States Born Rottweiler Pups and German Rottweiler Puppies For Sale like the body size, head size, bone and temperament of the Rottweiler dogs. The most notable difference is that any German Rottweiler Puppy after June 1998 has a tail. Besides the tail, the Rottweiler breed distinguishing factors between German Rottweiler Puppies For Sale and American Rottweiler Pups are close to the same.

So why is there a common misconception that German Rottweiler dogs are different from American Rottweiler Pups? The misinformation lies in the poor breeding programs which don’t closely observe Rottweiler breed type uniformity, no planning, and no focus on the intricacies of the Rottweiler dog as a breed. The result being the proliferation of non-standard Rottweiler breed features for instance the dissimilar sized heads, elongated bodies, and small bones.

The German standard (FCI/ADRK) as specified by the organization is as follows: Shoulder height for male Rottweiler dogs is 61 – 68 cm (24.01 – 26.77 inches) with 65 – 66 cm (25.59 – 25.98 inches) being the correct height of a Rottweiler dog. Shoulder height for females is 56 – 63 cm (22.04 – 24.8 inches) with 60 – 61 cm (23.62 – 24.01 inches) being the correct height.

So, what is the best way to get a Rottweiler canine that is as close to the German standard of FCI/ADRK as possible? First, finding out about the pedigrees of the Rottweiler pup’s Sire and Dam. Second, is to discover whether the stud dog and brood dog|brood dog and the stud dog|stud and brood|brood and stud) are a good match for each other. Finally, you can be in close contact with the Rottweiler breeder to for see what improvements can be envisioned in the future litter and what bad features will possibly come about.

Although whether the dog is German Rottweiler or an American Rottweiler breeding a top quality Rottweiler dog is always a balance of genetics, family line, breed information, and previous matching data. The Differences between German Rottweiler Puppies For Sale and United States Born Rottweiler Pups By Breeders Of Rottweiler canine families are the breeder’s breeding program. The most desirable breeders to find are those who try to breed for all of the qualities of a Rottweiler pup as stated here.

Whichever type of Rottweiler you adopt, make sure to ask to see documents of certification and inspect them before you adopt or purchase any dog from a Rottweiler breeder. Also, consider the breeder’s reputation and track record as a Rottweiler Breeder. And again, remember, real difference is that German Rottweiler pups are birthed in Germany and American Rottweiler puppies are born in the The States.
